Whether you want to lead a hike down your favorite trail, or join someone else's hike...we have a training session for you. Join us November 9 at Blandy Experimental Farm for a day of hiking know-how. PATC Trail Patrol offers this hike leader class for people who want to learn new skills—and, perhaps, become formal hike leaders for the club. This one-day course provides essential skills for leading a safe, environmentally responsible and enjoyable hike. We'll cover how to handle basic first aid, leadership development, trip planning, standard and emergency procedures, gear and clothing, basic map reading and navigation, and Leave No Trace ethics. The training includes lectures with hands-on applications and trail-based scenarios. Following the session, you'll be encouraged to participate in two co-led hikes with an experienced PATC hike leader in order to receive your hike leader certificate. If you want to join us November 9th (8:30am-4:30pm), please sign up. (And please bring your lunch.) Hike on!

Twenty-one PATC members came together at B Chord Brewing on Oct. 5th to vote on bylaws and officers of the proposed Blue Ridge Chapter of the club. We learned that PATC will vote on adding the chapter at a December meeting. Also under discussion: boundaries and future events for the chapter. The chapter will have an all-day hike leader training session on Nov. 9; the location is still TBD. Congratulations to our newly elected officers: President: Kristine Villatoro Vice President: Abby Ingram Secretary: Melissa Burke Treasurer: Brian Snyder |
